Suzuki had a very finished-looking turbocharged parallel twin-cylinder engine on display at the Tokyo Motor Show, which looks like it will be the engine used in what we hear will be the production version of the “Recursion” concept bike that originally made its appearance at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. No information was available other than the engine’s “XE7” nomenclature, but its overall architecture looks very similar to what was originally thought to be a mockup powerplant used in the Recursion (apparently that concept bike was closer to reality than we thought). Suzuki claimed back then that the 588cc engine would be good for 100 hp @ 8,000 rpm and 75 ft/lb of torque at 4,500 rpm, so if this is indeed the engine, those are pretty impressive power figures from such a small displacement twin.
What’s interesting to note with the XE7 engine is that the rather small intercooler is mounted up high next to the intake plenum chamber. The Recursion was said to have its larger intercooler mounted underneath the seat, so perhaps there will be some small changes to the production version of the bike compared to concept bike displayed two years ago. We’re hearing that Suzuki will be unveiling several new bikes at the EICMA show in Milan, Italy, coming up in a few weeks. Could the Recursion be one of them? Stay tuned.
